Supporting School Refusers, Long-Term Absences & Missed Lessons

Modified on Mon, 28 Jul at 9:45 AM

CENTURY is ideal to use to support learners who have missed lessons or school on a short term or a long term basis because of the design of the platform and the way the learning material has been created.

CENTURY’s Adaptation and Content

CENTURY is an adaptive platform which personalises learning for each student. By constantly assessing student understanding, identifying individual strengths and weaknesses, and strategically revisiting concepts at optimal intervals to strengthen memory, CENTURY empowers all learners, including those with SEND, to make sustained progress and retain knowledge for the long term.

Our content is underpinned by cognitive neuroscience, including Cognitive Load Theory. This ensures information is presented in manageable chunks to prevent overload. We also integrate Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction and the foundations of Quality First Teaching to create a structured and effective learning experience. Catching Up on Missed Content

For missed lessons, easily create homework assignments that are personalised. You can select specific nuggets corresponding to the missed lesson, or set a Smart Assignment which will suggest relevant learning within a topic.

Addressing Learning Gaps

For school refusers or long-term absences, set diagnostics which correspond to topics being taught in class. CENTURY will assess students in the relevant area and then automatically send them to nuggets that will support and stretch them, effectively filling gaps in knowledge.

Independent Catch-Up

In emergencies or for long-term absence, students can follow their Recommended Path independently across subjects. CENTURY will automatically fill gaps, recommend retrieval-based learning, interleave subjects, and identify topics for Focus and Stretch. Smart Assignments also make it easy to track their progress.
